I went on a two-week service trip with seven Mizzou students and 15 Thai students from a university called KMUTT in January 2020. We traveled to a remote village called Bo Kluea in northern Thailand and worked in teams to create strategic communications and marketing materials for local business owners.
My group focused on salt production for our project. Salt production is a vital part of life in Bo Kluea because tourists love learning about it, salt is the area’s main export and the method of making salt is an 800-year-old tradition. One salt maker said he was concerned that there are no young people making salt anymore. To address this concern, my team created a video with the hopes of inspiring young people to learn the trade.
